The 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) has concluded at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, with 39-year-old Shaun Deeb named the 2025 WSOP Player of the Year.
Following changes to the scoring system made for last year's award that Scott Seiver won, this year's WSOP Player of the Year would be a tight affair for 51 days. Benny Glaser came out firing with three WSOP bracelets, while Scott Bohlman won one and followed it with a few strong results. Martin Kabrhel won his first WSOP bracelet outside of Europe and reached another final table, while the late surge of Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi with 12 cashes and bracelets in the $50,000 Poker Players Championship and $10,000 Main Event prompted many to state that he should be automatically awarded the title due to the magnitute of those two feats.
However, Deeb would rise to the top mid-series on the back of winning his seventh WSOP bracelet and a plethora of close calls, both live and online. After winning his first WSOP Player of the Year title in 2018, he joins Daniel Negreanu (2004, 2013) as the second player in history to win the award twice.
Deeb began his 2025 WSOP campaign with a series of min-cashes before a deep run in the inaugural $25,000 No-Limit Hold'em/Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller. It would take two weeks before Deeb would put up his first meaningful result when he finished third in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Championship, which Philip Sternheimer won. Deeb immediately followed that with a runner-up finish in the $1,500 Razz to Allan Le.
After reaching the final two tables in the $2,500 Omaha Hi-Lo/Stud Hi-Lo, Deeb would finish runner-up in the WSOP Online Monsterstack to Matthew Wantman. Less than two weeks later, Deeb would finally get his win after numerous close calls when he topped the 121-entrant field to win the $100,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller for $2,957,229 for his largest career score.
He wasn't done. Deeb immediately followed that with another runner-up finish, this time in the $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Deepstack to Zdenek Zizka. Deeb added a few more cashes to end his 2025 WSOP, including a 19th place in the $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller.
Deeb tweeted on the final day of the series, "We did it boys and girls great battle between Martin and Benny they battled to the last tourney."
In total, Deeb won his seventh WSOP bracelet, made five final tables, cashed 24 times, and won $4,006,440 in prize money during his 2025 WSOP Player of the Year campaign.
