The 2019 U.S. Poker Open is officially underway. From February 13-23, the world’s best will compete across ten high stakes events for the USPO Championship. The USPO trophy, $100,000, and the first High Roller Triple Crown title of 2019 is up for grabs and each day, “Today at the Open” will recap the action and prepare fans for PokerGO‘s final table streams.
The more things change at the U.S. Poker Open, the more they stay the same. There are more events in 2019, with bigger buy-ins and more games featured across the USPO. Despite those changes, Stephen Chidwick has still dominated. The defending champion already has two wins and enters the high stakes homestretch with the USPO Championship points lead. Is the 2019 USPO title Stephen Chidwick’s to lose?

We know Chidwick will remain at the top of the USPO leaderboard through Wednesday’s $25,000 No Limit Hold’em final table. While the last few days of PokerGO coverage have featured constant battles between USPO contenders, Event #7 won’t shake up the top-5. Ben Yu and Nick Petrangelo begin today’s final table just inside the top-20, while the rest of the lineup are outside the top-30. Nick Schulman and Keith Tilston will open their USPO accounts today.
Regardless of how Event #7 plays out, Stephen Chidwick will lead the USPO Championship standings heading into the $25,000 Mixed Game Championship. The 8-game event also features a higher points multiplier, meaning that 350 points await the Event #8 winner. As one of the only players in the current USPO top-10 that is well known for his Mixed Game proficiency, that means Stephen Chidwick could lock up a second U.S. Poker Open Championship with a $25,000 Mixed Game win. He did something similar last year.

He did it once and no one would be surprised if he did it again. While some will try to get themselves into USPO contention today, Chidwick continues his journey to back-to-back USPO titles in an event that he has conquered before.
