If the High Roller of the Year race is a marathon, the race towards the Poker Masters Purple Jacket is a sprint. That high-speed journey takes place live on PokerGO and the highest stakes week of the year will play a major role in deciding the 2018 High Roller of the Year. As the first High Roller Triple Crown series of the season hits the $100K Main Event, which players are in Purple Jacket contention?
During the first Poker Masters, every player entered into the $100,000 Main Event was immediately a Purple Jacket threat. Since the 1st place prize in the biggest event of the series was more than any single player had accumulated throughout the preliminary events, a win meant double Poker Masters glory.
That is not the case this year. A new scoring system means that points, not dollars, will crown the 2018 Poker Masters Champion. That also means that heading into the series-ending $100,000 Main Event, only five players were in the hunt for the Purple Jacket.
Back-to-back winner Ali Imsirovic took control of the Championship Standings after his Event 6 $50K No Limit Hold’em victory. The High Roller newcomer is over 150 points clear of long-time leader Brandon Adams. If Imsirovic books a podium finish in the $100K Main Event, he guarantees himself the Purple Jacket.
While Imsirovic is the only player that controls his own Purple Jacket destiny, the rest of the chase group needs some help.
If Imsirovic does not cash, Brandon Adams and Isaac Haxton can take the Purple Jacket lead with a variety of finishes. A podium finish for Adams locks up the Purple Jacket, as long as Haxton doesn’t finish higher than 3rd. Isaac Haxton can take the overall lead with either a 1st or 2nd place finish. In that scenario, Brandon Adams would have to finish 3rd or worse.
Jake Schindler and Ben Yu were also within touching distance. They had to win the $100K Main Event to win the Purple Jacket, but both elected not to register before the start of Day 2.
That means that it is a three-horse race with two days left to play. The highest stakes week of the year and the Purple Jacket race will conclude on PokerGO this weekend, with coverage of Day 2 of the $100K Main Event beginning at 7 PM ET.
