When you run hot, you run hot. And Stephen Hubbard proved that by snagging a quick victory on his day off at the Texas PLO Roundup at the Champions Club in Houston, Texas. Just one day earlier, Hubbard bagged the overall chip lead in the Texas PLO Roundup $3,300 Main Event, finishing Day 1 with 927,000 chips on his way to Day 2.

Hubbard used his day off to register for the $5,100 Single Day High Roller, and he quickly navigated his way through the eleven-entry field to capture a fast victory. He started the day hot, immediately taking a pot from eventual runner-up Jordan Glazer. In the very first hand, Hubbard rivered a straight to take a nearly 100,000-chip pot, mirroring the luck he would ride for the rest of the day.

Of course, the day wasn’t without its dips and valleys, but Hubbard navigated well and made it through without re-entering. In one of the most crucial early pots, he flopped a set in a limped three-way pot against Philip Shing and Abraham Obeid. Obeid held a wrap straight draw, but bricked out, giving Hubbard a key double-up.

From that point, Hubbard continued climbing and built a healthy stack coming out of the registration period. In one of his most impressive hands of the day, he made an incredible read against Chris Costa, calling with on a board of and was correct, scooping a pot of over 100,000 chips.

It was Pho “Bad Boy” Vu who drove most of the action through the evening after he late-registered. He quickly eliminated two players in rapid succession as registration closed, taking out Philip Shing and Chris Costa, then taking most of Abraham Obeid’s chips as well. But he also doubled Hubbard into the lead with his fast-and-loose play style. Hubbard flopped a set against Vu’s turned two pair and held to take over the chip lead.

He wouldn't look back from there. Just one level later, Hubbard eliminated a short-stacked Vu, bringing him and Jordan Glazer into heads-up play. They got it in just a few hands later, with Hubbard holding a straight against Glazer’s set. Hubbard held, and that sealed the deal on the first of three single-day high rollers at the Texas PLO Roundup.

Hubbard moved to 176th on the PGT Leaderboard with his win, collecting $36,000 and 36 PGT points. He now sits with 328 PGT points and seven PGT cashes. Glazer moved to 130th on the PGT Leaderboard with 441 PGT points and eight PGT cashes. Both players have already bagged the Main Event and are guaranteed even more points over the weekend.

The Texas PLO Roundup continues on Sunday with another Main Event flight at 8 a.m. CT and the second Single Day High Roller beginning at 6 p.m. CT.
