Nick Guagenti is now a three-time World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner after emerging victorious in Event #25: $10,000 Stud Championship. Guagenti battled heads-up with Chino Rheem past 3 a.m. to add to his WSOP bracelet collection that includes a WSOP Online bracelet in 2020 and a $1,500 Limit Hold'em bracelet in 2024.
Guagenti now climbs to more than $2,885,000 in lifetime tournament earnings, according to The Hendon Mob. It is also his largest career score in the live arena, only topped by his WSOP Online $2,000 No-Limit Hold'em Deepstack victory for $305,433 in 2020.
Day 3 of the $10k Stud Championship began with nine players and Rheem holding the chip lead. J. David Rogers was the first to fall when five-time WSOP bracelet winner Adam Friedman made a flush on sixth. Mike Matusow's quest for a fifth WSOP bracelet ended in eighth place when he couldn't improve his Broadway draw as Guagenti won with a pair of deuces.
Dan Heimiller was eyeing a second bracelet for the series, but he was eliminated in seventh place when his pair of tens were no match for Paul Volpe's trip aces. Friedman was all-in on fifth street and finished with split aces, but was outdone by Guagenti's queens-up.
Rheem eliminated PokerGO President Mori Eskandani in fifth. Eskandani started with split jacks against Rheem's split eights, but would immediately improve to trips on fourth as Eskandani was unable to improve to leave just four players. Volpe fell in fourth when his split fours improved to trips, but Qiang Xu had a straight in five and Volpe was unable to improve.
Rheem put his foot on the gas to extend his lead over his two opponents, but following dinner break, Xu moved into the lead and surged ahead. Rheem retook the lead and Xu began to slide before being eliminated in third place when he finished with a pair of aces on seventh but was crushed by Rheem's full house.
Rheem began heads-up play with Guagenti holding a 5.6 million to 2 million chip advantage and that was extended as far out as a four-to-one advantage, and then a seven-to-one chip lead. Both players traded blows for hours with a rail of players that included Michael Mizrachi, Jean-Robert Bellande, David "ODB" Baker, Phil Hui, Joey Couden, Philip Sternheimer, Craig Chait, and many more world-class poker players.
As the clock ticked past 3 a.m., Guagenti seized control and extended his lead over Rheem. The final hand would see Rheem all-in on fifth with three to a flush draw and a pair of sixes against the split sevens of Guagenti. Guagenti improved to kings-up while Rheem wasn't able to find diamonds or another six and was eliminated in second place - his fourth runner-up finish in WSOP bracelet events.
