Poker’s favorite couple this summer, Liv Boeree and Igor Kurganov, broke through and won their first World Series of Poker bracelets together in the $10,000 Tag Team event. Following their win Boeree and Kurganov announced they were donating half of their $237,964 prize to the REG Charity – a project they co-founded – Raise for Effective Giving. On Sunday, they upped the ante and are auctioning off an extra bracelet that the WSOP donated on eBay with all proceeds benefiting REG.
“We don’t really need the bracelet but there are people who desperately need our help,” said Boeree. “For them a donation to the right charity can make a real difference.”
The auction is open for ten days with a starting bid of $2,000. The WSOP donated the extra bracelet without any cost to Boeree and Kurganov.
“If you haven’t won a bracelet during this year’s WSOP, this is one of the last chances to get one,” said Kurganov. “And you can support great charities in the process.”
Over the years, a handful of bracelets have been auctioned off or sold. Peter Eastgate raised $147,500 for charity with his 2008 Main Event bracelet. Max Pescatori auctioned off one of his bracelets earlier this year to benefit the Italian city of Amatrice after a devastating earthquake in 2016.
Jamie Gold, Jerry Yang, Brad Daugherty and Tom McEvoy have also theirs for various reasons. Also, Ted Forrest bought Hamid Dastmalchi’s Main Event bracelet for $1,500 during a cash game when Dastmalchi complained the bracelet wasn’t worth what Binion’s claimed it was.
