Later this week, the World Poker Tour and PokerGO will partner again, giving fans around the world the opportunity to watch the world’s leading poker players compete for one of the WPT’s most prestigious titles. The WPT Montreal Main Event from Playground Poker Club is regularly one of the biggest events on the WPT schedule and this year’s installment of the CAD $2 million guaranteed event did not disappoint.
Through three starting flights, just over 600 players packed the Playground Poker Club in Montreal, building up a nearly CAD $2.2 million prize pool. 234 players returned for Monday’s Day 2 session, which combined the three starting flights, and some big names were near the top of the leader board.
Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, who has two WPT titles on his lengthy tournament resume, was the third biggest stack to advance, while Brian Altman and Asher Conniff were also in the top ten. The latter won the 2015 WPT World Championship and a few other former WPT winners, including Anthony Zinno, Tony Dunst, Aaron Mermelstein, Dylan Wilkerson, and Will “The Thrill” Faila are also still alive.
Mike Sexton and Ema Zajmovic, the last two players to win WPT titles at the Playground Poker Club, also advanced to Day 2 and will hope to make the money, with 76 players set to cash.
While those big names and past champions navigated their way through their respective starting flights, they all have a long way to go to get to the WPT Montreal Main Event final table. That is where the big money, with CAD $403,000 awaiting the eventual champion.
The final table will be streamed on PokerGO on Thursday, but until then, live updates of the event can be found on WPT.com. Poker Central will provide daily recaps and more in-depth coverage of the WPT Montreal Main Event from the Playground Poker Club as the event gets closer to the final table.
