January is the best month for poker, no matter the buy-in. While many big shots are travelling internationally, there’s multiple tournaments with huge guarantees giving grinders reason to criss-cross the country for a month-long road trip.
The first Week of January finds the best action at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, Mississippi – sister casino to the Bellagio. The Million Dollar Heater Series features a $600,000 guaranteed opening event January 5 for only $355. The value can’t be beat and the guarantee is twice that of the Main Event.
From Biloxi, next stop is to Durant, Oklahoma for the World Series of Poker Circuit stop with a $1 million guaranteed event kicking off January 12 for a $365 buy-in. The schedule and crowds call for a full stay through the $1,675 Main Event that also has a $1 million guarantee that wraps up on January 22.
Jumping from Oklahoma, then it’s up to the Borgata for their Winter Poker Open Series. The midweek action features a $750,000 guaranteed across three events. The World Poker Tour’s $3 million guaranteed $3,500 Main Event closes out the month with hopes of making a televised final table.
But there’s always a backup plan and should Oklahoma not go so well, the WSOPC is a few hundred miles west at the Horseshoe Tunica beginning January 19 – 30. Should the plains of Mississippi prove to not be tempting the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida is hosting the Lucky Hearts Poker Open.
Midwestern players have the Heartland Poker Tour in East Chicago January 12 – 23, the Mid-States Poker Tour has two events – one in Milwaukee and one at bestbet Jacksonville, and the Commerce kicks of the LA Poker Classic in January that runs through March.
