The PokerGO Tour (PGT) season is nearing its conclusion, and the PGT Last Chance series represents the final proving ground.
The PGT Last Chance series is the last opportunity for players to earn points toward the PGT leaderboard, secure qualification for the PGT $1,000,000 Championship, and capture the PGT Player of the Year title.
With leaderboard cutlines tightening and Dream Seats still available, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
Only the top 40 players on the season-long PGT leaderboard qualify for the PGT $1,000,000 Championship, provided they meet the requirement of at least three PGT cashes during the season and opting in to play.
As the PGT Last Chance series unfolds, several battles will be front and center:
Every result directly impacts who advances to the Championship and who is left out when the regular season closes.
Reaching the top 40 is only part of the equation. Players enter the PGT $1,000,000 Championship ranked by PGT leaderboard points, and the ranking determines the starting chip stacks.
Higher placement on the leaderboard equals a larger starting stack, greater flexibility early in the Championship, and increased leverage at the table. Each additional spot inside the top 40 is worth a minimum of five big blinds to a player’s starting stack.
This means that even players who are mathematically locked into the top 40 have a significant incentive to continue accumulating points during the PGT Last Chance series.
The PGT Player of the Year race remains one of the closest in recent memory.
Only 55 points separate Sam Soverel and Alex Foxen, with Soverel holding the slight lead. The player to finish the regular season with the most points will be crowned PGT Player of the Year, win a $50,000 prize, and enter the PGT $1,000,000 Championship with the largest starting stack.
Chino Rheem, who trails Soverel by 451 points, remains in striking distance, too. Given how many PGT points are estimated to be up for grabs during the PGT Last Chance series, Rheem is still capable of one final push to steal the title away at the death.
Beyond leaderboard points, the PGT Last Chance series features its own series leaderboard, with additional rewards on the line.
The top five finishers on the Last Chance leaderboard will each earn a Dream Seat into the PGT $1,000,000 Championship.
If a leaderboard Dream Seat winner has already qualified through the top 40, then the Dream Seat will roll down to the next eligible player, extending opportunity deeper into the field and keeping more players alive until the final event concludes.
The PGT Last Chance series runs January 5-10 at the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas, closing out the PGT season with one final stretch of high-stakes action.
The series features six events, each with a $10,500 buy-in. Players who register on time will receive a $400 rake discount.
All events allow unlimited reentries, ramping up the aggressiveness as players push to accumulate points in the final window of the season.
In addition to leaderboard points, the series carries additional implications for the PGT Championship. The top five finishers on the PGT Last Chance series leaderboard will each earn a Dream Seat into the PGT $1,000,000 Championship, with seats rolling down if a finisher has already qualified through the top 40.
With limited time, unlimited bullets, and Dream Seats on the line, the PGT Last Chance series represents the most volatile and decisive stretch of the season. When the PGT Last Chance series ends, the picture is set. The top 40 will be finalized, the Championship field will be locked, and Player of the Year will be crowned.
For players chasing points, positioning, or a seat in the biggest event of the season, this is it.
