The final table of Event #2 of PGT Last Chance was a slugfest from start to finish. Even though he began the day as the chip leader, it was no easy feat for Patrick Leonard to close out the final table. Players battled four-handed for nearly three hours as they played down to a winner. In the end, it was Leonard who was left with all the chips, and with it, he captured the $315,000 first-place prize as well as 315 PGT points, which were much needed on his route to the PGT $1,000,000 Championship.
The day began with fireworks, as Nick Schulman doubled through Brock Wilson in a coin flip. Wilson then doubled through João Simao in a coin flip of his own. In fact, through the first two levels, there were five total double-ups among the final seven players. It was João Simao who was the first to fall today when his pocket kings could not hold up against Jared Jaffee's top pair and straight draw. Jaffee made two pair, and that would do it for the Brazilian, who earned $50,400 for seventh place.
Jeremy Ausmus was the second to go on the day as several players started to get whittled down to short stacks. Ausmus got it in against Patrick Leonard with king-high against Leonard's pocket tens, with most of the money going all in preflop. Leonard was able to hold on after an eight-high flop, earning him a pot of around 2,500,000 chips. Ausmus earned $63,000 and 63 PGT points for sixth.
Players then exchanged chips for nearly an hour and a half before a short-stacked Brock Wilson was finally eliminated in fifth place. Wilson got it all in with ace-high against David Wilson's queen-high. David Wilson would pair his six kicker on the river, and that would be enough to eliminate Brock Wilson. For his run, Brock Wilson earned $75,600 and 76 PGT points.
Players continued to exchange pots before Jared Jaffee found himself as the fourth-place finisher. Jaffee called off in the big blind after a shove from Nick Schulman, and Schulman's queen-high paired its deuce kicker to outrace Jaffee's king-high. Jaffee took home $107,100 and 107 PGT points for his run.
Three-handed play went quickly as Nick Schulman was eliminated after just a few hands. Schulman moved all in over a raise from Leonard holding ace-ten, but Leonard had the goods with ace-king. The ace-king would hold, and the massive pot went Leonard's way, leaving him with a nearly 7-to-1 chip lead heads-up.
Leonard was able to close out heads-up play quickly, even though he did double Coleman once with the best hand. Leonard finished it off shortly after when Coleman shoved with king-high over a raise, and Leonard had the best hand with ace-queen. Leonard would make trips by the river, and that earned him the pot and the win in the event.
