Facts and figures. They make the world go around and, more often then not, tell a story without letting opinions or biases get in the way. Which numbers from last year’s Poker After Dark episodes tell those stories and what quick opinions do we have?
26 – Poker After Dark rebooted in August and since then, 26 episodes have streamed live on PokerGO. If you watched them live, you watched some of the biggest pots in televised poker history play out before your very eyes. If you missed any of that action, that isn’t a problem. Every Poker After Dark episode is available on-demand, meaning that there is over 125 hours of poker just waiting to be streamed.
1 – Those 26 episodes featured past and present poker legends, including Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Antonio Esfandiari, Doug Polk, Jason Koon, Phil Galfond, Daniel “Jungleman” Cates, and more. There is only one Tom Dwan though and after being out of poker’s spotlight, Dwan returned to television in dramatic fashion. The former online legend was the main feature during the stacked “The Return of Tom Dwan” cash games and he put an exclamation point on his comeback with one of the most talked about hands of 2017.
$979,600 – While that aces versus kings hand nearly broke the internet, the Matt Kirk and Bill Klein collision later in “The Return of Tom Dwan” week nearly broke the seven-figure mark. Kirk cracked Klein’s aces in brutal fashion and then nearly $980,000 got in the middle, with “Aussie Matt” scooping the pot. We’ve yet to see either of these players return to Poker After Dark since, but the next time we do see Kirk, no one would be surprised to see more big pots develop, as he’s one of the most aggressive players Poker After Dark has ever featured.
7 – Since Poker After Dark rebooted this past summer, each week has had a distinct theme. There were legendary returns, talkative tables, rumbles, and more in 2017. This year will open with another theme, as Poker After Dark brings seven of poker’s most successful and popular female players for “Femme Fatale” week. The $100/$200 NLH cash game will feature GPI #1 Kristin Bicknell, Kathy Liebert, Sofia Lövgren, Melanie Weisner, and more and the entire “Femme Fatale” lineup should start the new year with tons of action that will only continue through 2018.
