Jason Hickey Captures First Career PGT Title
It was an up-and-down day for Landon Tice, but he ultimately rose to the occasion and captured the title in PGT Bounty Blitz Event #3: $5,100 No-Limit Hold’em Quattro. Starting the day in the middle of the pack, Tice steadily worked his way to the top, securing a victory just days after his friend Jeremy Becker had done the same.
The final table of Event #3 played out at a much slower pace than its Event #2 counterpart, with nearly two full levels passing before the first elimination. That came when John Andress jammed ace-jack into Andrew Ostapchenko’s pocket sixes and failed to improve. The resulting chip boost for Ostapchenko helped set up Tice’s first double of the day, when his pocket fives held against Ostapchenko’s ace-five, vaulting Tice toward the top of the counts.
Cherish Andrews was the next to go, falling victim to a brutal cooler. She connected on an ace-high board holding ace-king, but Dan Shak had laid the trap with pocket aces. The setup sent Andrews out in fifth place.
For a moment, it appeared to be Shak’s tournament to lose. He doubled through Tice into the chip lead and later eliminated Ostapchenko in fourth when both players made trip fours, but Shak’s superior kicker earned him the knockout.
That’s when the tide turned. Tice rattled off a string of double-ups—three in quick succession—to surge back into the chip lead. He then eliminated Sam Laskowitz in third place when his ace-jack held up against Laskowitz’s queen-ten. That left Tice ahead entering heads-up play against Shak.
Although Shak briefly reclaimed the lead, Tice quickly regained control and wore him down to just a few big blinds. On the final hand, Shak moved all in with king-high, only to run into Tice’s ace-queen. The ace-high held across the board, sealing the win for Tice.
