Jonathan Little, or "Coach Little" as he's referred to by some, put on a commanding performance to capture his third career PGT title and his first of the series in Event #4: $10,100 No-Limit Hold'em of the 2024 Poker Masters presented by PokerStars NAPT.
Little was able to collect the trophy and $226,800 first-place prize after defeating newcomer Harvey Castro heads-up. The win has now pushed Little's career earnings to more than $9,000,000 according to The Hendon Mob. It also moves Little into third place on the Purple Jacket Leaderboard behind Justin Zaki and Jeremy Becker. For those who remember, it was Little and event number three winner Zaki who would go head-to-head in the PokerGO Cup earlier this year. That series had to be decided by the final hand of the final event to crown a champion. Both Players flopped a pair, but it was Little's higher pair that held to secure the trophy and the points lead. With Little now right behind Zaki on the leaderboard and a few events still remaining, it may not be out of the realm of possibility to see a rematch. Castro's second-place finish was his second six-figure score and the second-highest live cash of his career.
Little entered the day as the chip leader and never once relinquished it as he methodically eliminated every player at the table.
Clemen Deng would be Little's first casualty when he ran his ace-jack of hearts into Little's ace-king offsuit. Deng didn’t get the help he needed and was out the door in seventh place. This was Deng's second cash of the series.
Next to exit was Isaac Haxton. Haxton would exit in similar fashion to Deng, by running a smaller ace into the bigger ace of Little. Haxton found himself all in with ace-ten of spades against the ace-jack offsuit of Little and even though Haxton found a ten on the flop, Little was able to re-outdraw Haxton by spiking a jack on the turn to send him home in sixth. With this finish, Haxton would also log hs second cash of the series.
Wayne Nowak was our fifth-place finisher. Nowak defended his big blind against Little and after both players flopped an ace, Nowak moved all in. However, Nowak’s ace-deuce offsuit was outkicked by Little’s ace-queen offsuit and he would not be able to catch up to avoid elimination. Nowak took home more than $56,000 for the showing.
Sam Soverel scored his first cash of the series and became the fourth-place finisher after his ace-king of diamonds couldn’t hold against the jack-ten of spades of Little. Little would flop a pair of jacks, turn a straight, and then river a flush to send Soverel to the UFC fight early as he requested.
It was back-to-back final tables for Jim Collopy who was the sixth-place finisher in event number 3. Collopy got it in good with pocket deuces against the king-three offsuit of Little, but Little was able to flop a king to end Collopy’s tournament in third place. Collopy took home his first six-figure cash of the series.
Little had a significant chip lead of almost six-to-one at the start of heads-up play against Castro, and although Castro was able to find the double early on with ace-ten offsuit to Little's queen-six suited, the two players found themselves all in shortly after when Little shoved ace-jack offsuit from the button and Castro called with ten-nine offsuit from the big blind. Castro couldn't improve and was eliminated as the runner-up.
