The 2024 Super High Roller Series continued from the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel & Spa in North Cyprus, with Spaniard Adrian Mateos parlaying his fourth consecutive cash into a victory in Event #6: $25,750 No-Limit Hold'em Mystery Bounty (6-Max).
The Spanish poker pro claimed his fifth career PGT title after topping the 40-entrant field to win the $162,000 first-place prize. Mateos also picked up three of the seven bounties in play totaling $165,000 - $100,000, $40,000, and $25,000. This was Mateos's third victory of 2024 after winning Triton Jeju's $30k No-Limit Hold'em for $1,175,000 and Triton Montenegro's $50k No-Limit Hold'em for $1,761,000.
According to The Hendon Mob, Mateos' lifetime tournament earnings now climb to more than $49.8 million. He extends his lead on top of Spain's All-Time Money List and creeps closer to Daniel Negreanu, who sits seventh place on the All-Time Money List with $53.89 million.
In the first Mystery Bounty format tournament of the Super High Roller Series, a total of 40 players would take a seat and create a prize pool of $980,000. Half the prize pool would be reserved towards Mystery Bounties, with $25,000 (2), $40,000 (1), $100,000 (2), and $200,000 (1), up for grabs among the final six players.
Sorel Mizzi was the first to fall, and he was soon followed by fellow Canadian Sam Greenwood. Seth Davies bowed out in fourth place as Phil Ivey held the majority of the chips when three-handed play began. Mateos scored a double before a three-way all-in occurred to end the tournament.
Quan Zhou shoved the button for roughly 15 big blinds with ace-six, and Mateos reshoved from the small blind with ace-ten-suited. Phil Ivey called all-in from the big blind for slightly more than what Zhou had, and tabled his king-four. Ivey took the lead on the flop with second pair, but Mateos had flopped a flush draw. A third diamond on the turn ended things for Zhou and Ivey, who finished in third and second, respectively.
For Mateos, his fourth consecutive cash of the series would secure him a victory for $162,000 in first-place prize money, along with $165,000 in bounties. Ivey may have only won $113,000 for his second-place finish, but he also scored the two biggest bounties of $200,000 and $100,000 to cash for $413,000 effectively.
