Super High Roller Bowl V pit some of the best players in the world against each other, and both Alex Foxen and Igor Kurganov turned out to be headliners of this edition of the tournament. While Isaac Haxton ultimately came out victorious, Foxen and Kurganov played arguably one of the most interesting hands of the entire events. For Run it Back with Remko, I looked back on this defining hand of the tournament with Kurganov after he was eliminated in sixth place for $756,000.

The hand in question, as discussed in the video player above, is a great example of how complex the game of poker has become and how deep the brightest minds in the game think about it. For the mortals among us, such as myself, the game of poker will never evolve to this level because I would never be able to keep up with Kurganov’s thinking.

Any person these days can work tirelessly on their fundamentals, run solvers, hire the best coaches, and put their heart and soul into the game, but at the end of the day, it’s about performing when the big moment arises. While Kurganov’s bluff might’ve failed, it took everything Foxen had to make the call in this highly unusual hand that once again showed that high-level poker action at the highest stakes is truly spectacular.
