Daniel Negreanu Leads Final Table of 2022 U.S. Poker Open Event #4: $10,000 Big Bet Mix

Daniel Negreanu won a pot for over a million chips against Alex Foxen to survive late in the day and never looked back, as he continued to accumulate and bagged nearly double the chips as the second-highest stack. Negreanu final tabled Event #1 of the U.S. Poker Open and finished in fourth place, and he will be looking to improve upon that as he returns to the Event #4 final table, which is set to air exclusively on PokerGO at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 20.

Event #4: $10,000 Big Bet Mix of the 2022 U.S. Poker Open kicked off at the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and only six contenders will return for the streamed final table. The players alternated between No-Limit Hold’em, Pot-Limit Omaha, and No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw.

Negreanu will enter the final table with a solid lead, holding nearly 37% of the chips in play with a stack of 2,450,000. Rok Gostisa (1,245,000), Tamon Nakamura (1,225,000), and Stephen Chidwick (1,020,000) are in the middle of the pack, while Dylan Weisman (565,000) and John Riordan (125,000) round out the final table, with the latter having just over six big blinds to make a run at the title. Riordan may be the underdog as the clear short-stacked player, but he did win this exact event during the 2021 U.S. Poker Open.

The 53-entrant field created a prize pool of $530,000, with eight players getting a piece of it. Andrew Lichtenberger, Jared Bleznick, Alex Foxen, and Dan Shak all made deep runs but were knocked out as the bubble approached. Cary Katz ended up bursting the bubble after getting pocket jacks in against Negreanu’s pocket queens in no-limit hold’em. The board failed to improve Katz and he was eliminated, while a short-stacked Riordan squeaked into the money.

With the bubble having burst, Jeremy Ausmus was next to make his exit in eighth place after running into Nakamura’s superior ace in no-limit hold ’em, and Alex Livingston ultimately fell in seventh place in pot-limit Omaha when his aces fell to Gostisa’s boat.

The remaining players have locked up $31,800, but all eyes are on the $169,600 first-place prize. Both Negreanu and Gostisa have the opportunity to move up to the second spot on the U.S. Poker Open leaderboard with a victory, although Shannon Shorr will remain on top of those standings for now. The top player at the end of the series will earn a $50,000 championship bonus and the Golden Eagle trophy.

Additionally, Negreanu is currently ninth on the 2022 PokerGO Tour Leaderboard and could move up several spots based on his finish at the final table.

When play resumes, Level 12 will continue with 35:43 remaining and there will be a dead button, with Daniel Negreanu in the small blind, and Dylan Weisman in the big blind.
