Binge Watch: Everything Phil Hellmuth on PokerGO

This week on PokerGO it was time for another epic clash of personalities, with Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth headlining “Whine and Cheese” on Poker After Dark. Hellmuth and Negreanu tangled in this $50/$100 cash game with a $200 ante along with a cast of characters that included Tom Marchese, Dan O’Brien, Justin Young and Jeremy Ausmus. The PokerGO Original short form comedic series ‘Poker Nights’ brought Hollywood flair to the game of poker with Chris Parnell headlining.

Parnell, known from Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock, and voices for Archer and Rick and Morty, hosts a home game on “Poker Nights” where all sort of shenanigans unfolds. Phil Hellmuth: The Poker Player

Interviews, acting, and storytelling aside, at the end of the day it’s all about the poker action! Hellmuth is featured in many different games and formats, most notably on Poker After Dark. Over the course of his poker career, starting in the late eighties, Phil Hellmuth also has by far and away the most appearances on TV. The ‘Poker Brat’ always shines when the cameras are rolling, and therefore it’s been a tall task to highlight all the action he’s been involved in on PokerGO. The World Poker Tour Legends of Poker event back in August made the first-ever WPT final table to be streamed live on PokerGO. Hellmuth made the final table of the event along with Adam Swan, DJ Alexander, JC Tran, Marvin Rettenmaier and Art Papazayan. At the start of the action-packed summer of poker action in Las Vegas, Hellmuth made two very notable appearances on PokerGO. First, he was at the feature table of the Super High Roller Bowl along with Hollywood star Kevin Hart. To nobody’s surprise, Hellmuth and Hart were a perfect match for entertaining poker and table talk. Hellmuth was not successful in the 2017 Super High Roller Bowl, but yesterday’s lottery for the 2018 edition of this event already secured his seat in the tournament giving him another chance at winning one of the biggest events of the year.

At the 2017 World Series of Poker, Hellmuth racked up another handful of results. Most notably, the 14-time bracelet winner came close to adding No. 15 in the High Roller for One Drop at the start of the series. The most recent appearance at a big tournament final table on PokerGO was during the inaugural U.S. Poker Open at the ARIA Resort & Casino. Hellmuth made the final table of the $25,000 Mixed Game Championship, along with Daniel Negreanu, Stephen Chidwick, Dan Shak, Benjamin Pollak, Isaac Haxton and Christopher Vitch. Phil Hellmuth on Poker After Dark

While winning 14 bracelets and most notably the 1989 World Series of Poker Main Event are the accomplishments that Hellmuth mentions the most when he’s on TV, the biggest catalyst to his ever-growing celebrity status are his appearances on Poker After Dark.

Hellmuth appeared on no less than 29 of the 79 shows that were recorded during the show’s run from 2007 through 2011. Aside from having participated in most of the show’s cash games that were broadcasted in the later seasons, Hellmuth won three of the Sit & Gos that he played in the earlier seasons.

Starting with Season 1, it was Shawn Sheikhan who got under Hellmuth’s skin almost immediately on “Poker Brat Attack.” This confrontation ranks high among poker’s most exciting feuds, and you can rewatch that entire show on PokerGO right now. Later in Season 1, Hellmuth also played on the properly named “Earphones Please,” week with Phil Ivey, Andy Bloch, Mike Matusow, Sam Farha and Tony G.

On the second season of the show, the “World Series Legends” week is one to watch as Hellmuth went heads up with none other than Doyle Brunson after outlasting Chris Ferguson, Layne Flack, Erik Seidel and TJ Cloutier. The partial rematch of the “Poker Brat Attack,” followed with “Live to Hurt,” when Hellmuth was once again paired up with Shawn Sheikhan. The lineup was filled out by Mike Matusow, Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandiari and Daniel Negreanu. This episode also marked the first time Negreanu and Hellmuth faced-off on Poker After Dark.

This wouldn’t be the last time Hellmuth and Sheikhan would face each other, as “Hecklers,” on Season 3 brought them back together again. That clash of players that are used to being the center of attention also featured Mike Matusow, Gavin Smith, Jean-Robert Bellande and Sam Grizzle who all tried to get a word in during this show.

Hellmuth went heads-up again during “World Champions,” where he faced the man he beat for the 1989 Main Event title. Johnny Chan and Hellmuth battled it out after, in order, getting rid of Huck Seed, Chris Ferguson, Berry Johnston and Jamie Gold.

The cash games on Poker After Dark started in Season 4, and Hellmuth was part of the first ever show along with Guy Laliberte, Allen Cunningham, Tom Dwan, Mike Baxter, and David ‘Viffer’ Peat. This game with a $100,000 buy-in was the first time Tom Dwan made an appearance on Poker After Dark, creating some epic moments.

Hellmuth was part of another “first” on Poker After Dark when he took down the “Heads-Up Challenge,” after beating Paul Wasicka, Ted Forrest and Chris Ferguson. This $50,000 buy-in winner-take-all victory became the second time Hellmuth took down a heads-up tournament after winning the NBC Heads Up Poker Championship where he also beat Chris Ferguson and took home $500,000.

Poker After Dark relaunched in September of 2017 on PokerGO, but it took until late December and “Holidays with Hellmuth,” before Phil made his first appearance. This week, in which Hellmuth played for three straight days, can be rewatched in full on PokerGO.
