The stakes have once again been raised at the 2022 PokerGO Cup, and Event #5: $25,000 No-Limit Hold’em saw a 41-entrant field create a prize pool of $1,025,000 at the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday.

Following nearly 12 hours of play, the final table of six was set with Bill Klein finishing as the chip leader with 1,695,000 in chips. Klein will be making his second consecutive appearance on a final table stream after finishing in fourth place in Event #4.

Second in chips heading into the finale of Event #5 is Sean Winter (1,395,000), who made an incredible comeback near the end of the day to finish in his current position. He came into the unofficial final table as the short stack, and was down to only two big blinds half an hour before the end of the day. He went on a run that included multiple doubles, and eventually eliminated Justin Saliba on the money bubble, when his kings held against Saliba’s sevens.

Joining Klein and Winter at the final table include Ali Imsirovic (1,060,000), Nick Petrangelo (1,000,000), Darren Elias (620,000), and Nick Schulman (385,000). The final six players have locked up $51,250 in prize money but they are all chasing the $369,000 first-place prize.

Imsirovic is the reigning PokerGO Tour Player of the Year, and Petrangelo will be adding more points to his early lead on that leaderboard after he claimed victory in multiple Stairway to Millions events on the PokerGO Tour earlier this year.

This will be Elias’ third appearance within a week on a streamed PokerGO Cup event after he finished third and fifth in Event #1 and #2, respectively. He will have an opportunity to jump to second on the 2022 PokerGO Cup leaderboard if he manages to win the top prize in Event #5. The player that finishes on top of the PokerGO Cup leaderboard will earn the PokerGO Cup and a $50,000 championship bonus.

Defending PokerGo Cup Champion Daniel Negreanu had another frustrating outing, as he ran up a solid stack and made another fairly deep run, but ultimately was cut down by Elias’ cowboys with two tables remaining.

Soon after, the unofficial final table of nine was set and Sergi Reixach was the first player eliminated when he ran into Imsirovic’s better ace. From there, a myriad of double-ups transpired and it took nearly three hours for the next elimination to occur.

Eventually, it would be winner of Event #4 Jeremy Ausmus to make his exit in eighth place, although he currently still sits atop the 2022 PokerGO Cup leaderboard. Not too long after that, Justin Saliba was knocked out on the bubble when he couldn’t improve against Winter’s superior pocket-pair, and the remaining six players were in the money and bagged and tagged to return for Monday’s PokerGO-streamed final table.
