Dylan Weisman Wins U.S. Poker Open Event #10 for $416,500

Dylan Weisman is quite the pot-limit Omaha expert. He laid more evidence to that with a $416,500 victory in Event #10: $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha at the 2022 U.S. Poker Open.

Weisman entered Saturday’s final table with the chip lead and never gave it up, knocking out all five of his opponents to get the win. Weisman also busted Chris Brewer in seventh place to end Day 1. In the end, Weisman topped Cary Katz in heads-up play, with Katz picking up $269,500 in prize money.

During the 2022 U.S. Poker Open, Weisman has finishes of fifth in Event #2: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha for $61,600, fifth in Event #4: $10,000 Big Bet Mix for $42,400, sixth in Event #8: $15,000 Pot-Limit Omaha for $60,300 in addition to the win he earned in Event #10. Not only have those results put $580,800 in Weisman’s pocket, but he’s tallied 414 points for the U.S. Poker Open leaderboard and is currently sixth with two events to go.

Event #10: $25,000 PLO drew a field of 49 entries and created a prize pool of $1,225,000. The top seven spots finished in the money. Sam Soverel was eliminated on the money bubble and then Chris Brewer finished in seventh place for $49,000. All players to cash earned both U.S. Poker Open and PGT leaderboard points.

How Weisman Won Event #10

Dylan Weisman closed Day 1 with the chip lead atop the final six players. Weisman knocked out Chris Brewer in seventh place to finish Day 1 and put 2,480,000 chips in the bag. He never lost the top spot from there, eliminating all five of his opponents on Saturday to get the victory.

Weisman first knockout out Isaac Kempton when he backed into a flush against Kempton’s pair of aces. Although Kempton wound up with a sixth-place finish in this event, he did pick up 44 PGT leaderboard points to extend his lead on the season leaderboard.

After Kempton, Weisman busted Stephen Chidwick in fifth place, with Chidwick adding $98,000 to his bankroll. Matthew Wantman was next to go, hitting the rail in fourth place for $134,750. Wantman got the last of his chips in on a queen-seven-two flop. He had queen-jack-ten-seven for two pair against the queen-nine-six-three for Weisman. Another queen on the turn gave Wantman a full house, but then a nine on the river improved Weisman to a superior full house.

Ali Imsirovic, last season’s PGT champion, then fell in third place. He got his money in on a king-four-three flop with the king-ten-eight-five. Imsirovic was up against Weisman who had the ace-king-nine-nine. No help came for Imsirovic and he was out in third place for $183,750.

The tournament came down to heads-up play between Weisman and Cary Katz. Weisman had 4,935,000 in chips to Katz’s 2,415,000.

With the blinds at 30,000-60,000, the final hand came up. Weisman was on the button with ace-eight-five-five with one suit and limped in. Katz checked his option with queen-jack-three-three double suited. The flop was jack-five-two rainbow, giving Katz top pair and Weisman middle set. Katz checked, Weisman bet 80,000, and Katz called. The turn was a queen, improving Katz to two pair but it still wasn’t good. He checked and Weisman bet 340,000. Katz check-raised and the two got the money in the middle. Katz saw the bad news that his top two pair was behind Weisman’s set and was in need of a queen of a jack on the river. The river was an ace to secure the tournament victory for Weisman.

Weisman Now Sixth On U.S. Poker Open Leaderboard

Dylan Weisman is now sixth on the 2022 U.S. Poker Open leaderboard with 414 points. Tamon Nakamura remains in the lead with 538 points. Cary Katz improved to 13th with 202, just behind Stephen Chiwick with 249 points in 12th place.

Kempton Extends Lead Atop PGT Leaderboard

With his sixth-place finish in Event #10: $25,000 PLO at the 2022 U.S. Poker Open, Isaac Kempton picked up 44 PGT points and extended his lead atop the leaderboard. He’s now in first with 1,375 points. Ali Imsirovic picked up 110 points and jumped from fifth place to third place, passing Sean Perry and Nick Petrangelo. Cary Katz picked up 162 points and moved into the top 10. He’s now ninth with 804 points.

The top 21 point earners on the PGT leaderboard will be invited to a winner-take-all freezeout tournament at the end of the season, with the winner taking home $500,000.
