Jake Daniels Wins 2022 PokerGO Cup Event #3 for $200,000

The third tournament winner of the 2022 PokerGO Cup series is Jake Daniels. On Saturday, Daniels took first place in Event #3: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em for a $200,000 score. Daniels topped a field of 80 entries to get the win.

“I’ve hired a couple of coaches and I’ve put in a ton of work in the last five or six months trying to get better because these guys are so stinking good,” Daniels said about his motivation to compete in PokerGO Tour events. “I had a nice deep run in Florida for a WPT a couple of weeks ago, made a final table there. I love the competition.”

Daniels entered the final day of play fourth in chips with six players remaining. He knocked out Michael Wang in seventh place at the end of Day 1 and then went on to knock out every other player at the final table on Saturday, which included a double knockout of Chris Moorman and Sean Winter.

The double-elimination hand happened with five players remaining. Daniels had ace-king and was up against Moorman with ace-queen and Winter with ace-five. Daniels was already the chip leader at the start of the hand and extended his lead even further with this pot.

“Chris just has to call it off there,” Daniels said of the hand. “I shove a lot wider than ace-king, and I was just lucky enough to look back and he had the perfect amount of chips to have to call with anything. It was a fun little sweat and really nice to hit the king and fade the queen and the five and the eight.”

Daniels then went on to defeat Jeremy Ausmus in heads-up play to win the $200,000 top prize.

“I can hold my own,” Daniels said. “I definitely think I have some holes in my game, but I’m working on getting those holes out of there as good as I can. These guys, they’re all really freaking good.”

The third event of the 2022 PokerGO Cup drew 80 entries. The prize pool was $800,000, with the top 12 finishers placing in the money.

Daniels’ Road To Victory In Event #3

After building up a solid stack of chips throughout the early levels of play, Jake Daniels knocked out Stanley Tang in Level 10 to improve to more than 1,000,000 in chips. Later in the same level, Daniels knocked out Dan Smith to pick up even more chips.

Entering Level 12, it was Daniels and Chris Moorman as the two biggest stacks. They clashed to start the level and it resulted in Daniels taking a hit to his stack. When Level 13 started, Daniels won some chips back from Moorman to close the gap.

When the field got down to one table, Daniels was second in chips behind Moorman. Daniels lost a big pot to Daniel Weinand with eight players left and found himself as one of the shortest stacks remaining. Daniels then knocked out Michael Wang in seventh place to finish Day 1 fourth in chips entering Saturday’s six-handed finale.

At the live-streamed final table, Daniels took out Brock Wilson in sixth place with pocket kings against Wilson’s pocket sixes. Then, Daniels doubled through Weinand to move into the chip lead. Daniels had pocket jacks against the Shopify co-founder’s ace-ten.

With five players remaining and the blinds up to 40,000-80,000 with an 80,000 big blind ante, Daniels clashed with Moorman and Sean Winter in a three-way all-in pot that saw Daniels bust both of his opponents. On the button, Winter raised to 400,000 with ace-five and left himself with 25,000 behind. Daniels was in the small blind and reraised all in with ace-king. Moorman was in the big blind and called all in for less than Daniels with ace-queen. Moorman had more chips than Winter to start the hand. When he called all in, Moorman exposed his hand as he was unaware Winter hadn’t acted on his remaining 25,000 in chips yet. That sent Winter into the tank. Eventually, Winter called to create the three-way all-in pot. Daniels’ big slick held up and he busted both Moorman and Winter on the same hand.

Daniels, Ausmus, and Weinand played for a bit before Weinand busted in third. He shoved second pair on the turn of a ten-high board and Daniels picked him off with top pair. That gave Daniels a commanding chip lead entering heads-up play. He had 9,525,000 to Ausmus’ 475,000.

Ausmus managed to find two doubles, but he couldn’t find the third. On the final hand, Ausmus got it in good with ace-jack against Daniels’ jack-two, but Daniels spiked a deuce on the flop and held from there to get the victory.

With the win, Daniels picked up 200 points for both the PokerGO Cup and PokerGO Tour (PGT) leaderboards. He said that he’s hoping to go on and win the PokerGO Cup series title.

“Another W,” Daniels said of what he’s looking forward to for the remainder of the series. “I want to be first in points. I want to win this thing.”

Sean Perry Takes PokerGO Cup Lead

Sean Perry finished ninth in Event #3, which gave him 32 PokerGO Cup leaderboard points and allowed him to move into first place. Perry won the majority of his points when he won Event #2.

With the win in Event #3, Daniels improved to third place on the leaderboard, with Scott Ball moving to fourth. Ball has cashed in all three 2022 PokerGO Cup events. Michael Lang is the other player to cash in all three events.

On the 2022 PGT leaderboard, Nick Petrangelo remains in the lead with 845 points. Perry moved up to sixth place with his ninth-place finish in Event #3 at the 2022 PokerGO Cup.
