JT Cool Options for Spectrometers

Detector with JT Cool

Features:

  • No bulky LN2 cryostat or storage facility
  • All-attitude detector operation
  • Remote operation with 10' gas lines standard
  • Compact, lightweight system
  • Low-maintenance, CFC-free refrigerant

The new JT Cool system from Princeton Gamma-Tech offers an alternative to the liquid nitrogen (LN2) cryostat for cooling high-purity germanium and lithium-drifted silicon gamma-ray and X-ray detectors. It is available for all standard P- and N-type coaxial HPGe detectors, planar HPGe detectors, and the complete line of Si(Li) detectors. Existing liquid nitrogen-cooled detectors can also be retrofitted.

The JT Cool makes the benefits of gamma spectroscopy available without the need for a constant LN2 supply. PGT's proprietary QUIET ONE anti-microphonic mounting technology permits the detector to achieve lab grade resolution while the refrigerator is in operation. PGT guarantees the same detector performance standards currently available in LN2-cooled devices. The JT Cool features an AC-powered, air-cooled compressor. The compressor is attached to the cold head by flexible gas lines that have self-sealing fittings at each end. It is designed for continuous maintenance-free operation and may be powered by either 115 VAC or 230 VAC.

Ordering Information The JT Cool is a mechanically cooled cryostat and detector head. The standard system features compressor, detector head, supply and return gas lines (10' length standard), and power cord.

The PGT JT Cool is available with coaxial and planar germanium detectors, as well as with Si(Li) X-ray detectors. Standard endcap outer diameter will be 3.0" for detectors with efficiencies up to 40%.

It is available as a new detector or as a retrofit of existing germanium detectors, including those from all other manufacturers. Contact PGT's Nuclear Products Group for pricing information.
